Project Officer

1. Background

Youth Voices Count (YVC) is a regional network of young LGBTQ+ people in Asia and the Pacific. Our over 300 members are spread across 22 countries in the region. Our strategic objectives include advocating for youth-friendly health services, advocating for improved mental health among young LGBTQ+ people, advocating for education and employment setting for young LGBTQ+ people, and monitoring global commitments made to young people.

At present, YVC is strengthening its organizational structure, systems, and processes as a fully functional non-profit organization based in Iloilo City, Philippines. Currently, our team is seeking applications for a project lead for IGNITE Empowerment Grants, our flagship small grants programs for youth-led civil society organizations (CSOs) working on LGBTIQ, HIV/AIDS, Youth Empowerment and Human Rights advocacies. On our third round of IGNITE empowerment grants, we will be supporting five organizations in partnership with Many Colored Skies (MCS).

2. Scope of Work

The project lead shall be hired as part of the non-regular Secretariat staff and will report to the Project Manager re the following tasks:

  1. Participate in project design meetings and propose improvements if necessary
  2. Evaluate potential problems and technical hitches and develop solutions
  3. Plan and manage team goals, project schedules, and new information
  4. Supervise IGNITE and coordinate all team members to keep workflow on track
  5. Manage project-related paperwork by ensuring all necessary materials are current, properly filed, and stored
  6. Direct project correspondences by preparing and reviewing project proposals, memos, meeting minutes and emails
  7. Adhere to budget by monitoring expenses and implementing cost-saving measures
  8. Coordinate with Project Manager to write necessary documents such as narrative reports

3. Qualifications

  • Ample and extensive experience with organizations (grassroots and otherwise) or as a youth activist
  • Familiarity with small grants programs
  • Excellent handle on using the English language

     Bloom finished their Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies from the University of Auckland with Second Class/First Division Honors, and their Masters in Education in Adult Learning and Community Development at the University of Toronto. They successfully launched Asia’s first application for queer gig workers, successfully advocated for the inclusion of queer migrant workers for Vertie Southeast Asia’s study about the situation of migrant workers in Thailand during pandemics, and successfully helped Non-binary Thailand partner with queer CSOs overseas especially in the South East Asia region. Currently, they are the consultant of ASEAN SOGIE Caucus, and the Head of the IR Unit for Non-binary Thailand.
 
    They take pride in being a neurodiverse non-binary/trans activist based in Thailand who has been involved in activism and international development for almost five years.

      Dr. Emmanuel D. Dayalo holds a doctorate degree in Education major in Educational Management and is currently an Associate Professor of Capiz State University-Roxas City Main Campus, Roxas City, Capiz. He is the co-adviser of United Colors of CapSU Roxas City Main Campus (UCC) which its organization’s advocacy is for the empowerment and capacitating the LGBTQIA+ students’ right, health programs and other organized activities to have a voice in the University. Presently, he holds the position as the Coordinator of the Student Organization and Activities of the campus.

      He was recognized as the Outstanding Coach/Adviser of the Student Organization and received an award in Research and Extension of the University of Capiz State University, Roxas City Main Campus.
