REGENERATE: Uniting for Gender Justice and Sexual Rights in Asia-Pacific

Bangkok, Thailand – Human and gender rights organizations across the region gather for the inaugural meeting of the Asia-Pacific Regional Gender Justice and Sexual Rights (REGENERATE) Platform in Bangkok, Thailand from October 4-5, 2024.

Banking on the need for change fueling the advocacy, the REGENERATE Platform  fosters solidarity, coordination, joint action for regional advocacy. With gender justice and sexual rights as its anchor, the platform will advocate for inclusive HIV, TB and malaria programming and policy-making in the Asia-Pacific region that responds to the needs of women, girls and people of diverse SOGIE. One of the goals of this meeting is to agree and build on solidarity on the platform’s vision and mission.

As an identity, the platform identifies as “a solidarity building, cross learning, and advocacy space for Asia-Pacific community and civil society organizations and networks committed to working together to promote, advance, defend and protect gender justice and sexual rights, particularly of women and girls key affected and vulnerable to HIV, TB and malaria and broader health issues (KAWGS) and people of diverse SOGIESC (PODS)”.

“We are joined in this common vision of one thing to improve – the world, the situation, the condition for key affected women and girls, and people of diverse sexuality”, says RD Marte, Executive Director of APCASO Foundation.

The REGENERATE Platform aims to fill a gap for key affected women and girls, and people of diverse SOGIESC by harnessing the power of a collective across networks and identities, across countries, national to regional and regional to national linkages. The meeting also aims to develop a strategy to take the platform forward beyond being a project into a sustainable regional movement.

Independent, but still part of the platform, projects under REGENERATE will be implemented by three organizations in three countries in the Mekong region – SCDI (Vietnam), KHANA (Cambodia) and SWING (Thailand).

The REGENERATE Platform is an initiative of the APCASO Foundation with support from L’Initiative.

The APCASO Foundation is a partner of Youth Voices Count in the development work for gender justice and sexuals rights in the Asia-Pacific Region.
